The project proposes a series of routes connecting Sardinia’s coastal settlements with its interior. Public spaces, accommodation and shared facilities provide stopping points along existing trails, linking tourist destinations with villages and the surrounding landscape. Together, these interventions offer an alternative to the enclosed coastal resort, encouraging visitors to explore the island and engage with local life.

The architecture draws on local building types and settlement patterns spanning prehistory to the last century. Nuragic towers, shepherds’ huts and rural sanctuaries share simple spatial arrangements: individual rooms standing alone, arranged in a line or grouped around a shared space or monument. Scattered across the landscape, these places form a network connected by paths and journeys. The project reinterprets their relationships between shelter, gathering space and open terrain to accommodate new uses.

Each intervention responds to the particular conditions of its site. The terrain, existing monuments, local activities and walking time between stops determine where buildings are placed, what they provide and how they are arranged. Local typologies are adapted through changes in scale, orientation and degree of enclosure, preserving recognisable spatial relationships while responding to different settings.

Along the coast, interventions extend towards the sea as piers, bathing places and open-air theatres. At the edges of towns, squares and hostels connect streets with rural paths. In villages, terraces overlooking the landscape and courtyards enclosed by accommodation provide shared spaces for residents and visitors. Further into the mountains, buildings become compact refuges and gathering places for seasonal festivities, eventually giving way to simple enclosures and markers that guide travellers along the route.
