Gallows, London

The project proposes three temporary theatrical structures near London’s former execution sites at Tyburn, St Giles and Newgate. Conceived for a programme of performances and public discussion, they recall the gallows through exposed timber frames, raised platforms and the relationship between an individual and a gathered crowd.
Seats, curtains and platforms invite encounter, reflection and play, allowing visitors to move between watching and participating. Historical accounts anchor these uses in the memory of each site, retaining the tension between public gathering and public spectacle.
Built from natural timber, black panels and galvanised corrugated sheets, the structures use repeated components and visible connections for straightforward assembly, dismantling and reuse.
